Total Coat BED LINER is a liquid plastic
coating, water-based, specially formulated for the automotive use, as an
exceptional protective coating for applications on truck beds, off road
vehicles, trailers and anything that requires strong protection under a
wide range of conditions. |
|
|
Characteristics
Total Coat BED LINER is a waterborne, flexible coating designed to be
applied on primed, top coated or painted surfaces. It's an advanced mix
of synthetic polymers, free of PVCs, VOC´s or asbestos that eliminates
the need for plastic drop-in liners for pickups.
A thickness of 1,0 to 1,5 mm is conformed by a cross-linked polymer
structure, that maintains the original properties for years.
Total Coat BED LINER does not contain any solvent; it is not flammable
or toxic. Prevents corrosion, resist scratches, insulates noise,
attaches permanently, won't crack, avoids load slippage and is
repairable. |
|
APPLICATION PROCESS
|
1
Cleaning
|
Put the vehicle in a
shaded area.
Make a high-pressure
water wash. The water spurt must be as close as possible
in order to guarantee the total removal of all dirt. A
hand brush is helpful too.
Apply the "Total Coat
Degreaser", "Citrikleen" or similar citrus based degreaser, diluted in 1:5 to 1:10 parts of
water. Another degreaser Brands can't guarantee the
performance required.
Apply the degreaser by
means of an air gun. The very same gun used for the
Total Coat BedLiner is also suitable. A soaked cloth can
also be used.
Be sure the degreaser
reach all areas and let it work for 5 minutes.
Wash with plenty of water.
Remove the excess water
off by air blow.

Masking
|
Mask the required areas.
Cover the doors, rear window, cab and sides, because
some small drops can reach them.
 |
5
Checking & Cleaning
|
Once finished the Total
Coat BedLiner application, check the results:
Observe the film
appearance. Watch for low thickness areas. A too thin
coating won't show the "orange peel look", and will be
weak for heavy duty use.
Make any re-application
you need at any moment (the film can be wet or dry).
For small areas or spots
retouches, use a soft hand brush and make shorts
perpendicular strokes that will give a texture very
similar to the original.
The air gun is easily
cleaned passing plenty of water through it until the
water comes out clear. Never allow the product to dry
inside the gun.

2
Surface Preparation
|
Lightly scuff the surface
with a sand paper.
On old or damaged areas a
metal hand brush is also recommended, in order to assure
all weak paint or similar is removed.
Wash again only with
plenty of water, due to the dust formed during the scuff
can affect the adherence of the coating.
If the scuff is made on
bare metal, you must apply the Total Coat just after the
water wipe and air blow, before new rust dust appears. |
4
Application
|
Open the Bedliner bottle
and screw in the air gun. No shake needed.
Apply the Total Coat
BedLiner in a uniform pattern, moving forward the spray
slowly and continuously in one direction in a single
hand.
Do not apply if ambient
temp is below 72ºF or if RH is below 40%.
The recommended application thickness is 1 to 2
millimeters. A visual guide for achieve this thickness
is to observe the condition when the wet coating gets a
textured "orange peel" look.
The air pressure
recommended is between 20 to 40 psi. A higher pressure
cause the spray drops to "rebound" and could also make
small craters on the film applied, which is not
advisable. If the air pressure system is not adjustable,
try to move away the spray gun.
Remove the masking paper and adhesive tape quickly when
wet, before the film dries.

Curing Times
|
Once you have finished
the application process, visually check the results (a
good flash light is recommended).
Check the films appearance. Look for areas of poor
coverage. If the coating is too thin it will not exhibit
the "orange peel" look and will not have the same
protective qualities as a correctly coated surface. If
you discover thin spots you can simply reapply the
coating (the film can be wet or dry) until the desired
thickness is achieved.
It is important to check
the vehicles external painted surfaces for overspray.
This is not always easy to detect with a visual
inspection. It is recommended that you run your hand
over the paint surface and feel for overspray. If you
detect some, simply wipe the area with a wet cloth to
clean it.
The product will appear
dark grey while it is still wet and will turn black when
it is totally dry. Avoid water contact until the product
is completely dry. Do not drive the car in rainy
conditions while the product is still wet.
The gun is easily cleaned by passing plenty of water
through it until the water comes out clear. Never allow
the product to dry inside the gun. Drying
process requires temps over 72ºF and RH over 40%. |

More recommendations & Tips |
|
Some
air pressure systems contaminate the out coming air with
the compressor oil. Be sure the air you're using is free
of oil mist, because even a minimum oil presence can
affect the adherence of the Total Coat BedLiner. We
recommend installing an oil filter.
" Keep a wet cloth at
hand, in order to wipe out fast any undesirable splash.
" It's easier to start
the application at the front end of the pickup bed and
continue backwards, staying kneeling in the center and
moving back in three or four steps.
" Do not mix the Total
Coat BedLiner with any other liquid or solvent, even
with water.
" In case you observe
some dripping it will be due to two causes: Drops of
water remaining from the wash process or a too thick
application (3 millimeters or more). |
" If any drop of Total
Coat BedLiner falls on your clothes, wet it immediately,
as once dry it will be impossible to remove from the
fabric.
" The product bottles
must be closed and in shade. Avoid heat.
" Small repairs can be achieved by means of a hand brush,
moving it in short pulse perpendicular to the surface.
This will produce a very similar texture than original. |
