SoundControl PREMIUM
SOUND CONTROL PREMIUM is a liquid plastic
coating, water based, specially formulated for the automotive industry,
as an exceptional acoustical control material. Dampens noise and
vibration, improving automotive acoustical quality. Also provides
outstanding anti-chipping and anti-corrosive protection, fulfilling
assembly plant specifications.
Sound Control Premium is a solvent-free product, non flammable, non toxic. Dries at
ambient temperature and is ready to use. Can be applied on primed,
painted or top coated surfaces in all kind of vehicles as an indoor
enhancer for audio systems. At the same time it’s an |
|
|
outstanding external noise deadener,
strong and durable. Can be used to coat the underside of the hood,
firewall, wheelwells, inside door panels, quarter panels, etc.
A thickness of 0,5 to 1,2 mm is enough to achieve such special results. |

APPLICATION PROCESS
|
1
Cleaning & Degreasing
|
It's the most important
step in any application.
Put the vehicle in the
car elevator.
Be sure to apply a high-pressure
water wash. The water spurt must be as close as possible
in order to guarantee the total removal of all dirt. A
hand brush is helpful.
Keep in mind that a common low-pressure wash could not
be enough, even in low mileage or new cars, because
underbody dirt tends to have high adhesion.
Also, there are critical
areas, as the wheel fenders internal edges that usually
are not properly cleaned in a common cars wash.
Use a water-based degreaser, preferably a citrus based
detergent.
Apply the degreaser by
means of a sprayer, air pump or air gun. The Total Coat
RA/88 gun used for the undercoating is also suitable.
Be sure the degreaser
reaches all areas and let it work for at least 5
minutes.
Rinse with plenty of water and repeat if necessary. Blow
the excess water off with an air gun.
Use a Citrikleen ™
Degreaser (or similar), diluted in 1:5 to 1:10 parts of
water. Do not use it without diluting.
Apply the degreaser by
means of an air gun. The very same gun used for the
Sound Control Premium is also suitable.
Be sure the degreaser
reach all areas and let it work for 5 minutes.
Wash with plenty of water.
Repeat this step if necessary in any point.
Blow the excess water off
by air blow.

Curing
|
Total Coat Sound Control
Premium is a water based product, which means a clean, easy and
safe handling, but under cold weather and/or high
humidity conditions it requires some considerations for
the curing process. For professional use you have these
options:
Air drying only
(under good weather conditions):
90 minutes at 72 F minimum. Do not apply under 72 F. Do
not apply below 40% RH.
Coating must be kept away from water for 4 hours minimum.
IN
COLD AND RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS
Use an Space heater:
90 minutes at 113 F or
60 minutes at 130 F
Use of short
wave Infra-red Lamps:
Allow 10 minutes of flash off at 30" lamp distance
Apply 30 minutes of heat at 30" lamp distance
Notes:
Always keep away the coating from water contact while
drying. While the product looks dark gray it means it's
still wet to the touch. Color will turn black, as the
film external surface gets dry.
Always keep away the coating from water contact while
drying.

Application
|
Look for all underbody
areas that are "unprotected" and those that are already
factory covered. Of course, be careful to apply the
Sound Control Premium on both, but mostly on the uncovered areas.
Apply the Sound Control Premium with the Total Coat RA-88 spray
gun, in a uniform pattern on all desired areas, moving
forward the spray slowly in one direction in a single
hand.
The recommended
application thickness is 0,5 to 1,2 millimeters. A
visual guide for achieve this thickness is to observe
the condition when the wet coating gets a textured
"orange peel" look.
The air pressure
recommended is between 20 to 40 psi. A higher pressure
cause the spray drops to "rebound" and could also make
small craters on the film applied, which is not
advisable.

4
Checking & Cleaning
|
Once
finished the Sound Control Premium application, check the
results (a good lantern is recommended):
Observe the film appearance. Watch for low thickness
areas. A too thin coating won't show the "orange peel"
look, and will be weak for sound dampening purposes.
Make any re-application you need at any moment (the film
can be wet or dry).
Pass your fingertips
above the vehicle external and painted areas close to
the application. This way is very easy to find out to
the touch if there has been some overspray contamination
(not always visible). If you feel some small drops just
wipe out with a wet cloth (water only) immediately.
The air gun is easily
cleaned passing plenty of water through it until the
water comes out clear. Never allow the product to dry
inside the gun.

|
 |
PROCEDURE OF INSIDE APPLICATION |
|
1.
Clean the
surface with Citrikleen (or similar citrus-based product),
diluted in 1:5 parts of water, using a wet cloth. Follow
a wipe off with a wet cloth.
2.
Be careful to remove all
dirt, grease, oil, etc.
3.
Mask the required areas,
including moving parts and electrical items.
4.
Screw the spray gun RA-88
in the Total Coat Sound Control Premium bottle. |
5.
Adjust the air pressure
as needed (20 to 30 psi).
6.
Apply the Sound Control
Premium
the same way indicated in the Outside Application
Instructions.
7.
Remove the masking before
the coating dries.
8.
Let the product dry
before re-assembly any indoor element.
9.
Small repairs or re-applications
can be done by means of a hand brush. |

More recommendations & Tips |
|
Some
air pressure systems contaminate the out coming air with
the compressor oil. Be sure the air you're using is free
of oil mist, because even a minimum oil presence can
affect the adherence of the Sound Control Premium . An
alternative is to use an oil filter.
A wet cloth at hand is a
must, in order to wipe out fast any undesirable splash.
Don't be confident in the
underbody conditions you see. Frequently, old graphite
coats and oil residues are not visible. That's the
reason for a careful degreasing process.
Do not try to mix the
Sound Control Premium with any other liquid or solvent, even
with water.
In case you observe some
dripping it will be due to two causes: Drops of water
remaining from the wash process or a too thick
application (3 millimeters or more). |
If any drop of Sound
Control Premium falls on your clothes, wet it immediately, as
once dry it will be impossible to remove from the fabric.
Avoid applying Sound
Control Premium on the exhaust system. If this happens, the
product is resistant to 185º C, but some plastic odor
would appear temporary.
The product bottles must
be closed and kept in shade. Avoid heating.
If you did some masking
during an application, remove the adhesive tape quickly
when wet, before the film dries.
Thicker application (more
than 2 millimeters) is not advisable, cause they won't
perform better properties.
Small repairs can be
achieved by means of a hand brush, moving it in short
pulse perpendicular to the surface. This will produce a
very similar texture than original. |
